Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between Basic and Pro?
Basic is about capacity: up to 5 active classes, 100 active students, SMS to parents and unlimited financial records. Pro removes those limits and adds the things that save you time rather than space — online card payments, payment and store links, parent portal logins, custom SMS and email sender names and scheduled balance reports. If your admin work is mostly record-keeping, Basic is a great fit. If it is mostly chasing money and answering parents, that is what Pro is for.
Can I start on Basic and upgrade to Pro later?
Yes, and that is a perfectly sensible way to do it. Upgrades take effect immediately, nothing is re-entered and no history is lost — you simply gain the extra features the moment you switch. There is no penalty for taking your time.
Do I need Pro to take card payments from parents?
Yes. Online card payments, no-login payment and store links, and parent portal logins are Pro features. On Free and Basic you can still record payments you have collected yourself, and parents still receive payment reminders and receipts by email or SMS.
What counts as an “active” class?
An active class is one you are currently teaching and taking attendance for. You can deactivate a class when a season ends — its history stays available and exportable, and it stops counting against your plan’s active-class limit. On Basic, deactivated classes become read-only; on Pro they stay fully editable.
Do deactivated students count toward my student limit?
No. Only active students count, so a student you deactivate at the end of a year keeps their full history without using up a place. In practice this means the 20 and 100 student limits go further than they first appear.
Can I change or cancel my plan anytime?
Yes. Upgrades take effect immediately, and you can downgrade or cancel whenever you like from inside the app. Billing is handled securely by Stripe.
How does per-session billing work?
Instead of a fixed monthly fee, you can set a rate per attended session for any enrolment. AttendMeIn counts the sessions each student actually attended and generates the payment amounts for you — editable before you confirm.
How do SMS credits work?
On Basic and Pro you buy SMS credit bundles inside the app. Each SMS sent uses credits, and a transparent ledger shows every purchase and deduction. When credits run out, notifications automatically fall back to email so parents still get informed.
Do parents or students need accounts?
Never as a requirement. Parents receive notifications by SMS or email, and payment links open without any login — there is nothing to install or sign up for. On Pro you can additionally give parents their own secure portal login if you want them to check attendance, grades and balances themselves.
Can I export my data?
Always. Student rosters, attendance, grades, payments and expenses can be exported as CSV or PDF on every plan, including Free. Bulk ZIP exports of expenses and income are available on Basic and Pro. Your data is never locked in.
Is my data safe and GDPR-compliant?
AttendMeIn uses one-time-password login, role-based access, strict per-school data isolation and immutable audit logs. Data is processed in line with GDPR — see our Privacy Policy for details.
What happens if I exceed the Free plan’s limits?
Nothing is deleted. You simply can’t add more than the plan allows (for example a 21st student) until you upgrade. Everything you’ve already created keeps working and remains exportable.
